I was just listening to the Green Cars podcast. I noticed Alan Clarke's comment that Ford believes with the UEV platform, BEV has now equaled or exceeded ICE in the "B" segment in cost equivalency. Which everyone was predicting for 2027 to 2028. So, right on schedule.
It's a huge BEV inflection...
Sandy Munro would love that comment about spending more on certain components because they saved money on a system wide level.
When it comes to looks and capabilities, I keep circling back to Jim Farley's comment that it's not a pickup. It doesn't look like a pickup or act like a pickup...
I know what I want in the software. A single stack under Ford's control, probably (not necessarily) based on Google Automotive.
The reason I want that is maintainability and responsibility and responsiveness. When it's inhouse, and it glitches, you can (if the engineering gods smile upon you)...
We're in that strange place where driver-assist tech is promising and useful but not yet perfected. It's totally reasonable for two people to have very different takes on it.
My personal use case is super clear to me. I'm 70 and counting. I see that transportation van for all the local elderly...
>> Is anyone going to actually answer my question?
If I understand your question correctly, you're worried about your vehicle dying while you're away. Gotcha. I did a quick Amazon search, and I saw a bunch of 48V trickle chargers. So if the Fathom does have a 48V battery, and if those trickle...
>> You are going to hate this place for the next few months.
Yea, we went through all this on the Slate forum for more than a calendar year. In the absence of fact, narrative fills all available space.
You're aware UEV vehicles don't have a low voltage battery, right? That is the first message in this thread. They use a DC to DC converter (generally a highly reliable component if properly specified and cooled) to supply low voltage directly from the high voltage battery.
You're not wrong...
If you watch Tim Bartz's video on the Fathom (he's a darn reliable source of information), he seemed kind of shell shocked at what kind of standard content you got with the Fathom. He was shaking his head wondering if it was going to disrupt sales of other Ford models, because you just get so...
If the Fathom isn't perfect for me, I'll just stick around and see what else Ford delivers on the UEV platform. I'm 99.9% sure the platform is awesome for me, partly just because I'm an engineering geek - and the engineering of the UEV platform rocks (well, I think it rocks - tbd).
There are a few solar truck and vehicle products out there. It's a common ask. Of course nicer if offered by Ford under warranty.

TwoQuickCapri, you are right and I am wrong. I was curious about why you were denied and I was not, so I researched terms. It's a bummer to me that Ford recognizes retirees like me but not vets like you (after 24 months have elapsed). You served your country just like all other vets. IMHO, I...
When Tim says (of the battery upgrade) "cheap" and "you'll be pleasantly surprised", I'm thinking of what I'd consider "cheap" and "a pleasant surprise". And I come up with the vicinity of $3,500.
On the new Kia EV3, a battery upgrade along with a whole next trim level (lots of goodies) is...
I think it's cool how different we are in what we want. I miss my 189" Ranger single cab. Others want bigger.
What's even more cool... BEVs are eventually gonna give all of us exactly what we want. From the 152" Telo, to the 174" Scout, to the 2xx" Fathom, to whatever else gets dumped on the...
As a retiree for twenty years now, who's received the benefit something like five times, I can attest that is not so. That's from multiple dealers in multiple states. I had to register once with IDME from the Ford site. Since then, I just go to the IDME site and get my certificate. Always...
Yea, I had buyer's remorse pulling out of the dealership lot in my 200" long Maverick, looking back sadly at my 189" Ranger. The Maverick still feels like a bloated whale when parking. Not as bad as the Ridgeline I test drove, but a monster. I can't imagine parking a modern F150.
Hoping the...
For the Mav, I have to put in some 2x4 supports, then full size material goes above the wheel well. They have a feature where you can set the tailgate as an extra support at that level. But I've done it and it's not an optimal solution.
I'm hoping Fathom does the Telo thing. Wheel wells far...
