That’s where even an EREV isn’t for everybody. If you never drive more than 100 miles then an EREV isn’t a good idea. I would also prefer only a 10-15 gal tank so I can go through it in a few months. I rarely go more than a month or two without a 300+ mile drive.

From the sounds of it the base model has a lot. I’d bet the base is closer to a Larait than an XLT maverick. I think the things you’ll see in the upgraded trim are things that are easily swappable: -heated/ventilated/leather 8-way power seats (standard is only power driver and may have heated)...
