The Mach-E is going to be a fantastic value equation used, vs a Fathom new. That's just the nature of depreciation AND the fact that the Mach-E has earned a reputation for being a very reliable vehicle. (My personal 2023 GTPE was impeccably built)
But there are some use-case differences that...
I bet the price will be going down, rather than up, as time marches on.
And honestly, lots of top tier automotive batteries are beyond $300 today.
Even my 12V LFP battery in my Sierra EV truck cost similar to the Tesla 48V
48V Tesla battery.
Weighs 4lbs 15ounces
I have several 48V batteries. But nothing small and light like this
There are lots of more traditional sized 48V batteries that serve the golfcart industry.
Switching to 48V is one of the most convincing pieces of evidence that Ford is actually serious about NOT building a dressed up to LOOK like a modern (non legacy) electric vehicle.
You can't fake what it takes to go to 48V
"When your name comes up on the pre-order list, you configure your order and tell Ford which dealership to send it to"
I was unaware that this has been confirmed. In fact, I think that I have heard that dealerships have heard what sounded like the procedure for ordering is the traditional...
I'm guessing that if the Fathom is a multi-year success, especially if it has Maverick type numbers and consistency, we will see Ford invest in options/trims that are not going to be available during it's early production history.
But I am already impressed with Ford's approach to creating...
As a long time fan of the KingRanch theme, I wish the interior on the rendering was remotely possible.
I fear it unlikely though.
KingRanch is probably too Legacy a brand for the UEV platform. At least for now.
The Sierra EV Denali is an $8000 MSRP jump from a Extended Range (~180KWH) to the Max Range (~215KWH)
If you are going to USE that additional 35KWH, I'm sure it's worth it. But I think for most folks, the ER is the sweet spot for value equation.
Not LFP, of course.
It's already #9000 rolling...
Nothing, in my opinion.
Other than the vulnerability of a dead 12V battery creating a potential serious issue. Ford eventually sent an OTA software update to keep the DC/DC converter running for 12 minutes after you turn the car off. In an effort to insure that you can exit the vehicle if you...
True, but again, that vehicle preceded the "skunkworks" team that has developed the UEV platform. They are strategically separated. It's almost like a different Ford designed the Fathom, than the Ford that designed the Mach-E/Aeros.
Although I didn't dislike my Mach-E external door hardware, I think they have received far more negative press than good. And I even think Ford was surprised that their attempt to be cool and clever backfired on them.
I'd be very surprised if the skunkworks team wanted to inherit the negative...
I gotta be honest.
It's highly unlikely that I would agree with every design decision made by Ford on ANY vehicle. I haven't so far, in the ~70 years of driving them.
But I will admit that the three favorite are ALL current model products. (Gen14 F150 Powerboost, 2023.5 Mach-E, 2025...
I don't know.
If Ford hadn't sat down at the Pre-Covid Tesla bar, and got drunk on the early EV wine that the whole world was slugging down with them, this little truck wouldn't be risky at all. Billion$ spent and flushed, that has nothing to do with this UEV venture.
Or put another way, too...
I have a White Maverick, White KingRanch F150, White Sierra EV Denali, White Transit passenger van, and had a White Mach-E.
I'm just guessing, but I bet they have a color choice I will be happy with. 😁
Low Range EV's are definitely iffy if they are a 1 vehicle fleet.
But even those folks who make that 1 scary trip once or twice a year can factor in a rental van/truck/SUV, and not deny themselves the enjoyment of EV ownership the other 50 weeks per year.
Of course if the family fleet has...
Ahhhh
That explains it.
I was wondering why the lower efficiency for your Mach-E?
I know the folks that live in colder climates also won't get the 3+ mkwh, but 2.5 around town is Full Size Truck mileage.
Design exercise only, in my opinion.
You gotta let those talented folks stretch a little, to get their creative juices flowing.
And then later, bring things back to production reality. 🤣
(unless the dreamer IS the boss, of course)
Oh you'd have a cow if.......
Thank goodness for Active Air Suspension and multiple dampening settings, along with a MONSTER sized battery, because GM, in their infinite wisdom, equipped the electric pickup truck with 35's! And on 24" wheels 😳
I got fairly similar in my GTPE.
3.1-3.3 was easy to get on my 46 mile daily commute. Mixed driving, with plenty of hooligan sprints to get position, if you know what I mean. 😁
Car was absolutely fantastic too.
Just not big enough for 3 or 4 grandkids and their cargo. That's why I'm partial...
