  1. FORD's failure to fix the ESCAPE PHEV is a problem for me. Trust FORD?

We're all for EVs. We currently have an Ioniq EV (and a hybrid maverick, and a Miata) at our home where we have a garage AND a level-2 240 charge cable. We had 2 Bolts. Daughter moved out, onward and upward this past summer and sold her Bolt. It's my daughter's PHEV. She has an apartment and...
  2. FORD's failure to fix the ESCAPE PHEV is a problem for me. Trust FORD?

To be clear, the issue isn’t the battery design. It’s apparently a possible manufacturing defect for less only a handful of vehicles. Instead of finding and fixing it, ford is using software to cripple every escape PHEV. It’s not a fix, not even a bandaid - it makes things worse for everyone.
  3. FORD's failure to fix the ESCAPE PHEV is a problem for me. Trust FORD?

The original useable capacity of 11 kWh was already about 80% of the actual battery so there is/was absolutely no reason to reduce charging any less than 100% on the battery. The recommendation for 80% doesn’t really apply any longer. I maintain FORD is peddling bullshit with this fix.
  4. FORD's failure to fix the ESCAPE PHEV is a problem for me. Trust FORD?

We have a 25 Escape PHEV in the family. It has an on-board smallish battery (spec'd at 14.4 kWh with about 11.5 kWh useable), FORD recently issued a recall for what has reportedly been a extremely rare issue. Some few batteries have vented on a very very small percentage of the PHEV vehicles. No...
  5. Toyota Highlander EV 3 row SUV

Seems to me if you 'never' drive more than 100 miles, but say more than 20 a day, the e-rev is actually perfect. To me, the best selling point of an e-rev is that there's NO range anxiety -AND- NO charging anxiety as long as you have at least a 120v outlet where you can top off nightly (say...
  6. Toyota Highlander EV 3 row SUV

Our Ford Escape PHEV has options to go EV first, EV later (for driving into a city where there may be restrictions), or EV auto (mostly EV but goes gas under highway load/speeds). I think E-REVs would also have something similar.
  7. Toyota Highlander EV 3 row SUV

Pretty sure the VOLT, which by many accounts was a decent first-attempt at an E_REV was programmed to run the ICE occasionally just to make sure nothing got stale, got the lubrication going, etc. It wasn't often, and it wasn't for long, but the VOLT owner didn't need to know nor care.. the ICE...
  8. Toyota Highlander EV 3 row SUV

The idea of an E-REV is that the on-board battery is much smaller than a full-on EV. Probably good for 80-100 miles so covers 95% of most daily driving needs (with a little room to spare) PLUS you've got a small ICE / generator combo to provide the electrons to run the EV when the battery gets...
  9. Toyota Highlander EV 3 row SUV

If one could wait, the Hyundai Santa-Fe is going to come out with a 100+/600 mile eREV. The next -gen Santa-Fe. I am a big fan of E_REVs, but PHEVs are all we have in the US right now. If you can't wait, maybe get a used 3-row PHEV with warranty left on it, and in 2 years, trade it for the...
  10. New video & photos: Ford Fathom in the Wild (Las Vegas detour during hot weather testing)

According to the carscanner I have on my hybrid MAV, the EV battery is 220 volts or there-abouts.
  11. Slate is going to offer a high-roof cargo kit

As reported at Slateforums... (info from Slate reps at official Slate event): https://www.slateforums.com/forum/threads/cargo-kit-info-options-and-fleet-sales-update-from-slate-portland-demo-event.16246/ I think it looks interesting, and I say good for Slate. I believe they will need all the...
  12. Ford Fathom Design Wishlist: High-Efficiency Colors & Smoother Multi-EV Home Integration

I use an OBDII reader and the free Car Scanner app to display live text data onto my Carplay screen. I can keep an eye on charging and discharge current to the battery as well as the battery charge level plus the gas engine torque. Those are the main triggers for hybrid/electric modes. To...
  13. Ford Fathom Design Wishlist: High-Efficiency Colors & Smoother Multi-EV Home Integration

You’d really like that Hyundai auto mode. try kerping your Mav in “L” mode for max regeneration
  14. Ford Fathom Design Wishlist: High-Efficiency Colors & Smoother Multi-EV Home Integration

One pedal is VERY efficient, but to my surprise the Hyundai 'automatic' mode seems to be even more so. I assume it's because no one can feather a throttle in the perfect sweet spot EVERY drive for every mile, where with auto mode, you get BOTH the ability to get great regen when stopping and the...
  15. Ford Fathom Design Wishlist: High-Efficiency Colors & Smoother Multi-EV Home Integration

Yes our 25 Mav is a hybrid AWD (with 4 K towing) - not true one-pedal, but pretty close IF you select the "L" mode - which works as a max-regen, but ONLY if you have the hybrid with the eCVT. L is quite different with the turbo eco-boost and standard transmission Unlike true one-pedal, there's...
  16. Ford Fathom Design Wishlist: High-Efficiency Colors & Smoother Multi-EV Home Integration

Big fan of 1 pedal driving. We kept it enabled in our 23 bolts (on off switch that keeps its setting) and was very well dialed in by GM. Though…. when we got our 24 Ioniq 6 AWD 2 motor sedan, the one pedal ( iPedal) would turn off between drives. When re-enabled, also worked great but the...
  17. Something Important, Say No to Door handles.

According to one of the recall notices, Tesla's electronically operated, retractable door handles could fail, trapping the occupants in a smoke filled fire coffin or slowing drowning in cold dark water and they scream in pain in a full frenzy panic, punching, pushing and hitting the...
  18. Something Important, Say No to Door handles.

our Ioniq 6 has the auto pop out feature. Fortunately it can be (and is) disabled via the setup screen.
  19. Something Important, Say No to Door handles.

No standard mechanical release is a major safety concern and a non starter for me. I’m okay with mechanical handles that are presented electrically if you just need a worthless gizmo, like the ioniq, but prefer a simple, mechanical, flush handle with mechanical release inside and out. anything...

+1 regarding a solar truck bed. That's a LOT of extra costs to gain just a few kWh on those occasions where you're parked under clear skies on a bright, bright sunshiny day. Assuming a 54" x 54" bed size, that's ABOUT 22 square feet of space for solar panels For comparison - a SINGLE 400 watt...
