Slate is going to offer a high-roof cargo kit

I think it looks interesting, and I say good for Slate.

I believe they will need all the fleet sales they can get to be viable. I doubt that the addition of a high top cargo cover will make much difference for the residential buyer (especially if the top is too tall for a garage?), but for in-city fleet / service sales it could be a big deal for them. If SLATE is ultimately successful, it will bring continued pressure on FORD to keep the Fathom competitive. Anyone wanting a Fathom should be cheering on SLATE (and visa-versa), as well as all the other entry level EVs and trucklets.

My concern will be if the lack of a rear visibility will be hampered by the lack of a large screen for a rear camera view (and of course if it exceeds the nominal height for parking garages and garage doors.

I absolutely agree 100% that Slate benefits consumers of the Fathom, as well as the other way around.

I offer evidence:

Ford released the F150 Powerboost in 2021. And although Ford might have underestimated its success, it's amazing that no other manufacturer has yet to try to get a piece of that Powerboost/ProPower onboard pie.
As a result, the Powerboost is now in its 6th year of production and Ford obviously feels no pressure to update/upgrade to a Powerboost V2. And believe me, there's a lot of low hanging fruit that Ford could easily pick and have an inexpensive "refresh" of the truck.

Slate success will absolutely keep the pressure on Ford and the Fathom.

If Toyota added their version of ProPower to their Tundra Hybrid? And made it superior to the Powerboost's ProPower? The consumer wins.

Lack of competition allows for manufacturer sandbagging.

I doubt Ford would offer it on the Fathom, per se. The whole point of the UEV concept is to have various modules that can be pieced together. It is more likely that they would offer a high-roof model built on the same platform rather than just offer a kit to add a high roof to a Fathom. Especially since there are already companies that do that for other trucks:
