They are calling this the "Model T" moment. Ford is investing heavily in streamlining EV production to make it as cost-efficient as possible, appealing to a larger market. However, let's be honest, this is still a huge risk for Ford. Either the 100,000 won't be enough, or it'll result in the...
I'll tell you how it worked at my local dealership when I placed the order for my Maverick back in the fall of 2022. When order banks opened, the salesman called me, and we placed the order after giving them a $400 deposit. He provided me with a copy of the order being placed and a copy of the...
"But it's a dry heat." I want to see the same conditions in 90% humidity as we get in the Deep South. Dew point plays a huge role in cooling efficiency.
The barcode only takes you to the Ford Fathom site. Nothing hidden that I can see.
That said, they need to bring it to central Alabama this weekend if they really want to test the A/C.
I doubt Ford would offer it on the Fathom, per se. The whole point of the UEV concept is to have various modules that can be pieced together. It is more likely that they would offer a high-roof model built on the same platform rather than just offer a kit to add a high roof to a Fathom...
Well, at <$35K fully loaded, pretty much every Ford model is a more expensive model. So, what is not being included to hit that mark? Tri-zone climate? Ventilated seats? A plethora of USB-C charging ports? Rear heated seats? Zonal lighting? Heads-up display? Projector LED headlights? Perimeter...
It comes down to nearly 30 years of muscle memory. I regularly take my foot off the gas to coast. The one time I drove a Tesla, I liked it, other than that. I kept "slamming the brakes" while simply trying to roll down a hill to a stop sign.
If I only ever drove an EV going forward, I could get...
There is one in every vehicle we own, and has been for years. It only takes one stupid driver on a bridge. I'm actually more likely to need to use it on someone else's car than my own. I treat it the same way I treat my smoke detectors. Statistically speaking, I'm unlikely to ever have a house...
I like my Maverick. So, the Fathom needs to at least offer feature parity, or there is no point in even looking. Given that I am averaging less than one tank of gas per month, I do not need the EV for fuel savings. I am aware that many of these would likely require a higher trim level. I am...
I don't really need to worry about winter. If I walk outside and my truck is covered in ice, I will wait until lunch once Alabama returns to type and it is melted.
I still prefer a manual handle. Not everything needs to be die-by-wire.
Lightning v2 is getting a gas generator. The Fathom was designed from the ground up as an entirely new modular EV platform that will allow Ford to basically bolt together segments to make a line of vehicles. So, the Fathom and other EVs should have a similar overall look.
The Fathom will win on seating capacity and cargo storage. While I have joked that the Mach-E is just an electric Escape, it is smaller than its twin. For Home Depot and camping trips, the Fathom will work better than a Mach-E. If you do none of that, then the Mach-E is sportier.
Not sure how a manual lever attached to a cable is more complicated than a button attached to a computer attached to a motor attached to a cable. It's not like Ford never figured out how to open a door.
Farley called the UEV Ford's next "Model T Moment" and looking back at that history, I can see how that makes sense. Ford reworked the entire assembly line to drive the Model T costs down so it is affordable for everyone. It sounds like Ford is trying to take the same approach with the UEV. Make...
