Agree!
For a sub $30K truck, I'd say it's easier to have customers buy an accessory lock down kit for surfboards.
It's not possible for a midgate in a such a low cost EV.
But then we might be surprised with a different game plan going forward with Ford marketing.
Ford could create more excitement by releasing demo models first, allowing test drives and then filling pre-orders later.
The only issue would be customers that do not have a pre-order and wanting one...
Until Ford starts to ship out pre-orders, I would not expect a dealer to have any available for test drives.
This comes from past experience with the Lightning truck rollout
My '22 Lightning was one of the first the dealer saw on their lot and the general sales manager came out to congratulate...
Standard range Fathom would not be the correct tool for the job.
With a long distance route like that, I'd look at 400+ mile range EVs with AWD not knowing the terrain & charging infrastructure along that route.
Highway driving yields you the least efficiency (lower range) and then the...
Agree!
Slate is no comparison when it comes to the Fathom by a long shot.
Slate buyers seem to be more of the direct to consumer buyer, less tech, more DIY and right to repair group of people.
Fathom buyers are traditional, tech driven and feature rich group of people.
I for one will be...
No, I am not.
NACS home and Tesla Destination chargers are AC / L2 / L1.
Tesla owners use NACS chargers at home or on the road - does not matter if it's AC or DC - they can take both.
My Ford EV has CCS1 which has a subset of J1772 (not using the large 2 pins).
My charger at home is J1772...
BTW: J1772 is L1/L2 AC charging.
CCS1 is DC fast charging; while NACS does both.
You will have to get a $40 J1772 to NACS AC adapter for your home charger if it's equipped with J1772.
You can't use your Ford adapter because it's for DC fast charging only.
Lectron, Tesla and A2Z sell these...
Absoulutely correct!
Fathom will sell like hotcakes and once the first year models with the promised standard equipment are sold, remember what Ford did to the Lightning and Mach E - they started to strip out features, benefits, and options so that they can continue making them for profit...
Looking at the Slate forum where I put up a non refundable $300 deposit that I will now lose - pointed out what the Fathom will have and got crickets - no one wants to reply.
Fathom has WAY more standard equipment that outstrips the Slate.
By the time the Slate is outfitted with all the...
Wow, didn't know it was common to have train derailments!
My derailment was featured in a photo with lots of Fords being taken off the train one by one using a forklift they punched thru the windshields and/or side glass windows to lift them out.
My dealer notified me that my order was...
Same here - I put down $300 to pre-order my Slate.
Looking at the Slate and Fathom - huge difference in equipment for about the same money.
Bad news: I am going to lose that $300 Slate deposit just because Ford came out with the Fathom!:swear:
Makes sense!
When I got my '23 Job 1 Mach E, it came with 3 years BC.
Then next month, I saw the Job 2 with only 90 days, but the price point was much lower.
After using BC for 3 years, I am hooked - love it as it reduces my workload on long distance trips.
My current iteration BC 1.3 has...
Agree - but at that time there were no "dealer stock" so I put in reservations for BOTH Lightning and Mach E.
Lightning order came up quickly - ordered in 2022 and a few months later showed up unexpectedly in July 2022.
I didn't expect to "win" the Lightning lottery and actually order one...
100% correct.
In my flight school class - aviation safety and flight risk management, we learned how reliance on automation can cause accidents.
Chesley Sullenberger who landed a jet on the Hudson river showed how human reaction times, decision making and low altitude created an impossible...
I want everything that I have on my Mach E Premium!
Sounds like I will have to upgrade in trim because no way it would be under $30K.
Anyone know if there will be an XLT, Lariat, Platinum or King Ranch version Fathom ?
There have been a few accidents using BC but those were mainly user error (lack of eyes on the road or sleeping w/ fake eyes) issues.
Compared to Tesla's FSD optioned accidents which have gained more media attention, Ford has been very scarce.
I for one would love it - coming from the Lightning.
It was a beast to handle around congested Los Angeles traffic, tight parking spaces and awful U turn radius.
Would not fit in my single car garage (unless I moved the refrigerator which my wife did not like).
Never used the Lightning for...
Anyone care to wager if BlueCruise option will be included for 90 days or 3 years for the first year production Fathom ??
I know I love BlueCruise - use it a lot in my Mach E.
Even renewed (free 4th year) thanks to Ford.
EV tires are typically heavier load rated and low rolling resistance (LRR) for range.
Tires will wear faster on EVs due to the increased weight.
And Ford may change their OEM tires many times before the production release.
My OEM Mach E tires lasted 30,000 miles and switch to run flats (RFT)...
