I am curious about your question and if Ford will follow it's traditional XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum convention for trims.
Or of they abandon it on favor of something different. It feels like Ford is trying to reach a different demographic with the Fathom than your traditional Ford truck buyer...
Not to single out Bob, but these are the posts I will remember and bring back from the dead when Ford releases actual battery range numbers.
We have a pretty good idea it's a 57 kwh LFP pack for standard range. 300 miles divided by 57 kwh equals 5.2 miles per kwh...
This is why I think you're...
I think the current crop of EVs and their design choices to eliminate actual door handles and other tech-forward choices have really hurt their ability to reach widespread adoption.
This thread is a good example of old-school buyers who are interested but are turned off by certain design...
Immediately turned off 1 pedal driving in my Lightning. Way too strong on deceleration and no way to adjust.
Ford, just give buyers the option to turn on and off 1 pedal depending on preference.
But I do love the Auto-hold feature.
By that logic, wouldn't the single motor, Rear wheel drive variant also need the structure?
Difference being on a Maverick the "single motor" option is front wheel drive. It's the opposite on the Fathom.
Anyone familiar with the electronic door handles on a Fisker Ocean?
They fail and literally trap you inside. Very interesting rabbit hole if you care to learn about the open source project for Fisker owners after bankruptcy.
Anyway, firmly in the camp of cable operated door handles over...
You make an interesting point. The cell size is currently unknown for the Fathom, bur we can look at current market offerings in LifePO4 cells for a comparison.
A 48v nominal battery in LifePO4 chemistry requires 16 cells in series. One LifPO4 cells is 3.2v nominal. 16 x 3.2v equals 51.2...
Good info and comparison to Tesla 48 volt battery from Cybertruck. Expensive to replace. But no economy of scale versus a 12v lead acid ecosystem that's been around for almost a 100 years.
In a sub $30,000 vehicle?
There is a reason the current system offered by GM and the former system by Ford cost $10,000+ and still doesn't work...
This is a very complex and complicated ask. I don't see it happening at this price point.
Booooooooooo!!!!!!
Dislike this hard, hoping it's just speculation and not true.
One of my favorite things about my Lightning is how similar it is to an F-150 inside and out. I hated the Model 3 center screen only when I rented one. Ford, don't make this truck too Tesla. Make it still Ford please!
What PHEV does she have?
My wife isn't convinced by my Lighting, she wants to take the interim step of a PHEV SUV first. We have been casually looking at a Mazda CX-90 PHEV but not seriously.
I want to start a discussion about Ford X-plan pricing and applicability for the Fathom. Has anybody heard if it applies or is excluded?
My employer offers X-plan with Ford as a benefit of employment. If your employer doesn't, joining Mustang Club of America is an option.
The other benefit of...
My wife has a 2022 Explorer and I would like to replace it with Electric. This Highlander is a leading candidate. Pricing is unknown at this point. Estimates are approx. $55,000.
I felt the same way about the Frunk when I got my Lightning... Then I started using it and found it very helpful. The bed is much larger and higher bed sides on a Lightning than a Maverick. So not apples to apples. But using the Lightning frunk is very convenient. For Family road trips, keeping...
I agree with your sentiment completely.
A little peak behind the curtain... It's incredibly difficult to pass EMI/EMC testing for AM radio in vehicles. We do it in my day job. AM radio is very susceptible to interference from all the electrical noises that vehicles these days generate.
There...
