Not that I am justifying Tesla here, but this is why everyone should have an emergency glass breaker/seat belt cutter in their glovebox. Preferably multiple, keeping one in the drivers door pocket as well. Or strapped to a sun visor.
Not trying to be facetious here, but what's the probability that in the case of a serious accident that its even going to be in the same place that you put it? Or that you are even going to be conscious or able to get to it? It certainly won't do a thing for people or first responders trying to help you.

If I am unconscious or "out of it", then my door handles working (from the inside) don't matter. From the interior occupant perspective.

The first responders certainly have these types of glass breakers/seatbelt cutters (I've seen them clipped to many police officer's vests), so I am not concerned about "external actors" lacking access to one. The probability that the one in the glovebox is still there after a crash is high, as I would think your glovebox is not going to be blasted to the moon outside of a very specific crash where the impact is there on the A pillar of the passenger side. Door side pockets? I would guess low probability, but higher than the zero probability you get if you don't own one at all. Right? Clipped to a visor? Probably same probability as the glove box, maybe a bit less.

I work in college admissions, and I always tell prospective students that they can't get in if they don't apply. I also tell them I know that is a dumb thing to say, but some of them have a light-bulb go off in their head and it removes a mental block. Always better to try, even if mentally you think the probability is low of success. Same concept here. I would rather pay 10 bucks for one and never need it, or not be able to find it after an accident rather than be in an accident where I am trapped and lucid, sitting there thinking "My one regret in life was buying that $10 breaker that I now can't find....I want a refund".

I figured first responders would have a device that breaks glass. Then I watched firemen break into a truck that was on-fire by hitting the driver’s window with an axe. Took at least 6-7 swings with the axe bouncing off the glass. Then they dropped a hose in. Then they opened the hood with an axe and dropped another hose in. It was hilarious.

Yikes. I mean, you gotta do what you gotta do to gain access. But being on fire and then having an axe to the side of my face would be unpleasant. ;)

Anyone familiar with the electronic door handles on a Fisker Ocean?

They fail and literally trap you inside. Very interesting rabbit hole if you care to learn about the open source project for Fisker owners after bankruptcy.

Anyway, firmly in the camp of cable operated door handles over electric actuated ones. I think they should be federally mandated safety equipment. You might not agree, that's okay. Just voicing my 2 cents.
