What features do you hope the Fathom might have?

I wonder how cheap a legacy automaker could have made a vehicle like the slate? I think most people would agree that 25k for what you get on the base slate is crazy. But they are a start up so they don’t have the economies of scale working in their favor. I bet ford could make something like that sub $20k for sure.

There haven’t been enough EV pickup trucks yet, so I haven’t seen a bed cap that’s designed for aerodynamics. Like something Ford designs with a partner that is lockable and that smooths the airflow over the top of the truck.

Would that be an interesting accessory?

Feature request: launch alongside a UEV platform-mate, E-scape. Reasonable up-charges for extended range AWD (300+ mi rated range), panoramic vista roof, heated (and cooled??) power Active-X if not leather seats. @rileyfromford ;)

Otherwise I may be able to fathom picking up a Fathom similarly equipped. Needs to have plentiful USB-C ports (ideally 60W to charge a laptop) and 120V outlets (15-20A to cover basic use cases).

Reliability, quality, safety standard from day 1.

Please 16-17” rims with a big sidewall tire. Better for range, cheaper to replace, better for ride comfort, less likely to get damaged.

One of my questions has been what happens to the aero when a bunch of boxes are in the bed. If you keep them below the bed line will it be much of an impact.

An aerodynamic bed cover might be something like the fastback F150 cover that came out a few years back.

Two approaches for hitting the $30k bogey:

Slate did it with a relatively conventional design that has features stripped out.

Ford did it with a novel design enabling radically lower production costs that allowed features to be left in.

The Ford approach is clearly the right path for the future…
Agree!

Slate is no comparison when it comes to the Fathom by a long shot.

Slate buyers seem to be more of the direct to consumer buyer, less tech, more DIY and right to repair group of people.

Fathom buyers are traditional, tech driven and feature rich group of people.

I for one will be losing out on the $300 deposit because I was not crazy about manual rollup windows....:CWL:

Slate's lack of power mirrors, power windows, and especially basic safety tech blind-side warning was the deal breaker for me. They slid from having a simple vehicle to one that's marginally stupid. I probably would have kept my reservation if they would have been more pragmatic about the features standard in the truck, as I really like the less screen/more buttons approach as well as the plastic body panels. I had planned to add my own double-din stereo with wireless carplay (+$700 dollars or so) if I would have gotten one, but they lost me as a customer with their first-gen effort.

Another option: Bed cover with integrated solar panel to help add a little charge on sunny days.

Cannot forget an instrument panel in front of the driver, with at least the same info as MME. 🤞

Also a cooled, shaded Qi charging pad to prevent device overheating.
