It surprises me that so many people dislike one-pedal driving, I wish my Maverick could do one-pedal. I've driven over 2000 miles in various, rented Teslas and always miss one-pedal driving most when going back to my own vehicles, gas to brake, gas to brake vs just smoothly modulating the accelerator as needed and rarely moving my foot from the pedal.
Same. I have only rented a Tesla once. I immediately loved the one pedal driving.

Immediately turned off 1 pedal driving in my Lightning. Way too strong on deceleration and no way to adjust.

Ford, just give buyers the option to turn on and off 1 pedal depending on preference.

But I do love the Auto-hold feature.

One pedal in my Nissan Leaf waz anemic, but I preferred it over coasting.

One Pedal in my Mach-E was so much better, and made me realize what Nissan was hinting at. I mastered Mach-E one pedal, but often still had to use the brake pedal when driving aggressive.

Imagine my surprise to discover one pedal in the Hummer/Sierra beasts to be the best! On its most aggressive setting you have to leave your foot on the throttle. Removing your foot from the throttle to the brake pedal proves to be folly in all but an emergency braking scenario. Or put another way, just letting up on the throttle is sufficient for hauling that 9000# brick to a halt.

Incredibly addictive.

But had I not had previous experience with the Leaf and Mach-E, I would have completely misjudged the truck. I probably would have been super intimidated by it and bailed on 1 pedal.

Big fan of 1 pedal driving. We kept it enabled in our 23 bolts (on off switch that keeps its setting) and was very well dialed in by GM.

Though….

when we got our 24 Ioniq 6 AWD 2 motor sedan, the one pedal ( iPedal) would turn off between drives. When re-enabled, also worked great but the Ioniq also has an Auto mode that’s even better! Auto mode stays enabled, and uses the front sensors to crank up the regen level if there’s traffic ahead, then drops it to a lower setting when clear. Gained about 10% miles/kWH in auto compared to iPedal.

I think ford should look at an auto mode like Hyundai. Works great.

Do you have a hybrid? Your Maverick could do one-pedal, if you try hard enough. I have a 2025 hybrid and I am one-pedal for probably 75% of my driving. I only brake when absolutely necessary and otherwise just use the gas to control things.

I like the auto mode on the ev6. When I let off the gas it slows a little and the breaking intensity increases the closer you get to the car ahead. It’s adjustable to give more or less breaking power at the start. Compared to I pedal where it you have to gradually lift off the gas to eliminate jerkiness.

There is one fatal flaw: it disables below 5 mph. So I never touch the break unless actually stopping. I have no idea why they programmed it to not come to a complete stop.

Me too. One-pedal driving was the second-biggest gimmick behind Bluecruise. What's the point in trying to save a little more energy through more brake regeneration when you have to hold the throttle more of the time to coast down to red lights? Completely dumb. I tried it on the Lightning for a week to see if I could make my brain get used to it and stop hating it, and it just wasn't happening.

Bluecruise and 1 pedal are gimmicks? 🤔

I completely understand someone not desiring one or both. But that doesn't qualify as a gimmick. Or put another way, those that enjoy Bluecruise and/or 1 pedal aren't being spoofed. They are actual features that function.

By the way, if you master 1-pedal driving, your passengers will give the vehicle credit for being "smooth", when what they are actually experiencing is smooth driving. Zero transition lag between switching pedals for on/off throttle and braking. And the suspension even transitions from load to unload with better balance.

I know I know. I can nerd out while driving. It comes from decades on 2-wheels and learning that fast is smooth and smooth is fast. 1-pedal on a bike must be a blast. (I have yet to have the pleasure)

Yes our 25 Mav is a hybrid AWD (with 4 K towing) - not true one-pedal, but pretty close IF you select the "L" mode - which works as a max-regen, but ONLY if you have the hybrid with the eCVT. L is quite different with the turbo eco-boost and standard transmission

Unlike true one-pedal, there's no automatic brake lights, so "L" will provide great regen (same as scoring 100% on the brake energy recovery EVERY TIME!), but no one behind you see your brake lights.

"L" in the hybrid does NOT change any gear ratios. Seems to be okay to engage it every drive. All it appears to do is provide max regen (and maybe engine braking when going downhill?).

One pedal is VERY efficient, but to my surprise the Hyundai 'automatic' mode seems to be even more so. I assume it's because no one can feather a throttle in the perfect sweet spot EVERY drive for every mile, where with auto mode, you get BOTH the ability to get great regen when stopping and the advantage of coasting without the loss/gain losses of regen and recovery. Cruising with NO regen can be very efficient, but setting regen where it lets you cruise can reduce the ability to capture more energy when stopping... That auto-mode is dynamic in that it lets you cruise with little or no regen (so no charge gain/loss inefficiencies) and still gives you more regen when you're stopping.

Given the choice, I'll take Hyundai's AUTO regen mode over 1-pedal mode now that I know about it and actually have an EV that can do it, but I'd certainly take plain 1-pedal mode over any less regen mode if the auto mode wasn't available (like in the BOLTs).

A proper 1 pedal mode isn't a gimmick. It works really well, lights up those brake lights, returns the energy that would have been wasted heating up the brake rotors back to the battery, and saves brake pad wear.

It comes down to nearly 30 years of muscle memory. I regularly take my foot off the gas to coast. The one time I drove a Tesla, I liked it, other than that. I kept "slamming the brakes" while simply trying to roll down a hill to a stop sign.

If I only ever drove an EV going forward, I could get used to it. However, my wife and I are not getting rid of her Expedition, and I don't want to have to swap up driving styles every time I take a different vehicle. I even dislike the auto-hold brake on ICE vehicles because I've gotten used to the car rolling a little when I take my foot off the brake.

Just let me turn off 1-pedal driving or at least tone it way down. I'll hit the brake pedal if I need to slow down.

Once I turn on BlueCruise, I don't care what the truck does...

You’d really like that Hyundai auto mode.

try kerping your Mav in “L” mode for max regeneration

The Denali EV has a Regen paddle on the left side of the steering wheel.

So while you are driving along in cruise control, obviously 1-pedal isn't doing anything, nor can you use your foot to slow down. (obviously)

So at the point YOU think it is appropriate to decelerate, you have your foot still in the accelerator, but you lightly pull on that paddle. It hands the 1-pedal back to your foot.

Or......
If you don't like 1-pedal, you are cruiseing (or coasting) and you can pull on the paddle and to the degree you want regen, that's how hard you pull on the paddle.

Think of it as a break paddle that takes the place of the break pedal.

I'm a Blue Oval guy in my DNA. Drove Ford primarily all my life. Still have several and would rather buy Blue if they build it. But when they dropped the Lightning and I had an itch for an EV truck, circumstances had me climbing in my first ever GMC vehicle in ~70 years. And while I do have a few gripes about some of the design decisions, their 1-pedal options are outstanding.

Or just let me use the brake pedal to slow down as we have for the last 100 years...
