Things I'm missing on my 2022 Maverick I'd like on a Fathom:

360 cameras and parking sensors
Cooled seats
Higher powered plug in the bed (400w on the Maverick doesn't do much)
A fully opening mid gate
Power operated frunk

Things I'm worried about the Fathom lacking:

A quality interior - plain design, cheap materials etc
Door handles - I'd like real door handles not buttons
Off road trims or sportier looking trims
HVAC buttons

Things I'm worried about the Fathom having:

Too low of range on SR battery
Mandatory subscriptions for basic features

Definitely a choice of different interior options on upscale trims, and a SPARE TIRE.The choice to delete a sunroof, not bundled into a pkg.Towing minimum @ 2500lbs.ability to still use one of the seats if the midgate is deployed.Extended range of over 300 miles,(NMC)INCLUDING L1,and L2 portable chargers🔌

The spare tire may be like the Maverick: a spare tire became on add-on in 2026.

Dual charging port - J1772 and NACS, like the new Nissan's have:

---
Dual Port Charging

Two ports means you're covered for most charging scenarios, no matter where you are. Your driver-side J1772 port is handy for routine charging at home or work, while the passenger-side NACS port gives you easy access for fast top-ups on the go in your 2026 Nissan LEAF.

---
Of course, for those of us with the FCSP at home, maybe is should be CCS1 so we don't need an adapter like the A2Z "Thunderstorm Lite."

You don't want this. This is an anti-feature. The J1772 can't do CCS (DCFC), only AC charging. More importantly, the NACS side can't do AC charging - it can only do DC charging.

Huh? That's exactly WHY you would want the dual port.

J1772 for home AC charging with most existing home EVSEs which are J1772, and NACS for fast charging at Tesla and other NACS chargers.

NACS natively CAN do AC charging, but most home EVSEs are not NACS, which is why a dual port would be good, so you don't have to go buy another EVSE for home use, see?

I have a GE Watt Station I bought in 2011 for my 2012 Nissan Leaf to do home charging (it does 32A although the 2012 Leaf is limited to 16A) with the J1772 plug/port.

And since I am a Lightning owner, I have a CCS1 Ford Charge Station Pro and I bought the A2Z Thunderstorm Lite adapter to do L2 charging with an NACS vehicle.

PS: I also made a 40A CCS1 to J1772 "adapter" by taking a J1772 extension cable and trimming a little bit of plastic off one end so it fits onto the CCS1 plug:

So I can use my FCSP CCS1 to charge any J1772 vehicle up to 40A.

Many public Level 2 EVSEs you might encounter are NACS. Every single hotel I have ever been to has had a Tesla wall connector. The few hotels I have been to with J1772 it has been in disrepair and non-operational.

I maintain that not being able to do AC on the NACS port is a huge anti-feature and causes significant owner confusion. The only reason for this condition to exist is because the vehicle manufacturer was too cheap to do things the right way.

Imagine you stay at a hotel with valet parking that does have both chargers. Imagine trying to explain to the valet they need to use the one kind of plug but not the other because the engineers of your vehicle were too cheap to add AC charging to the NACS port - which is kinda the entire point of NACS, it can do AC and DC on the same port. It's easier to explain an adapter.

This video is exactly how I (and I suspect most) feel about this:

If interested, how an NACS vehicle can charge AC or DC with the NACS standard, and how it detects which is being supplied:

How NACS Detects Source Type:

  • Control Pilot (CP) Communication: The vehicle's computer talks to the charging station via the CP pin. The charging station sends a specific signal (PWM - pulse-width modulation) indicating if it is a DC fast charger or an AC charger (IEC 61851 standard).
  • Proximity Pilot (PP): Ensures the connector is fully seated and locked before allowing any voltage to be applied, acting as a safety interlock.
  • Voltage Checking: Before closing the main contactors (relays) to connect the inlet to the battery, the vehicle performs a voltage check to confirm the power matches the negotiated type.
  • Pin Assignment: The same pins act as AC lines (L1, L2) for AC charging or DC polarity (+/-) for DC fast charging.
  • Safety Interlocks: If a DC source is detected when an AC charger was expected, the vehicle will not close the contactors, preventing damage
An interesting technical challenge of NACS is the same detail that makes it so compact- shared AC and DC pins. As Tesla details in a corresponding appendix, there are specific safety and reliability hazards that must be thought through and accounted for to implement NACS correctly on the side of the vehicle.

Extreme safety measures must be taken to ensure that the AC grid voltage applied to the inlet is never connected to the battery and DC battery voltage shall never be connected to the grid. Fire hazards and equipment damage will certainly occur if the control electronics and software fail.

Oh, now I see what you are getting at, the NACS port is DC only on the vehicle.

But there are NACS to J1772 adapters for that situation - I bought one when I frist bought my Lightning.

https://a2zev.com/products/nacs-j1772-stellar

But if you charge at home and are a long-time non-Tesla EV driver, you'll need the J1772 port for your home EVSE, eh?

ANyway you cut it, somebody is going to need an adpater...alas.

They could have made the NACS AC and DC on the dual port vehicle, which if done on the Fathom, would save someone from needing an adapter.
