Andrew Frick, president of Ford’s Model e division, recently told the Detroit Free Press that the top Fathom model will be priced under $40K.

“The starting price of $28,350 is just that,” Frick said. “We’ll have a range that goes to the high $30,000 range. And we’ll have a couple of different offerings within that."

Frick said more details on the various trims / models will come closer to launch.

I called this months ago. With ER battery, AWD, and an option package or two plus taxes, dealer fees, etc. you'll easily be over $40,000. The $28k number is a "bait n switch" technique in textbook fashion.

Several dealers have mentioned that we will be pleasantly surprised by what is included in the base price. I suspect most of the cost of a "top trim" will come from a larger battery. It makes sense for Ford to flatten the feature curve as much as possible to keep costs down. I'm just curious how the top trim compares to the Maverick's top trim.
I expect it will be similar to maverick step changes the first year with the battery and AWD, audio upgrades, decals, wheels, leather instead of cloth, towing package. I hope there is a Tremor for better suspension and underbody protection for light trail use.

Bait switch?

How are they switching what they have so far promised for the $28.5K truck?

They are simply stating that they will be offering a truck equipped with more hardware/features than the base model. They never even implied that you could have an additional motor and a bigger battery for free.

Because just like with the F-150 Lightning they are advertising this really really low price to get people in the door but when it gets to be game time it will be virtually impossible to find one for that price.

It will be no harder to order a base model at a lower price than it will be to order a higher trim at a higher price. You are talking like the only way to get a Fathom will be dealer stock on the lot. If you want the base model Fathom......order a base model Fathom.

So you are already convinced that Ford will not build the entry level Fathom?

I gotta admit that they absolutely withheld the Lightning Pro from reservation holders. (I was one of them and I'm still sore about it)
So I can see your point. But I'm hoping Ford acknowledges internally that it backfired on them big time, and cost them enormous goodwill with the Lightning crowd.

The big difference here though is if the spread is ~$8000 between the entry level Fathom and the AWD long range Fathom? That would be a far cry from the spread between the $40K Pro and the $72k XLT long range Lightning.

THAT spread was more than the cost of a Fathom!
