I think the ct has a 48v battery. Going without a low voltage battery would be interesting. The transformer is going to be running 24/7.

right - this could either be a stroke of engineering genius, or a new point of failure. Fingers crossed that it's the former.

Wondering if moving forward, Ford will use this new wire harness across the lines and put everything from F750 and E-Series right on down to all the other Fords to a 48v zonal system.

I think they have said that most of the lineup should be reworked to the new software defined platform by 2035. EUV then F150 EREV then the super duty’s and other gas cars.

Im guessing that by 2035 Fords only pure gas powered cars will be the F250+ lineup and the mustang. That the F150 will be strictly EREVs, along with their body on frame SUVs. Maybe 1 gas engine option. All of the cars to crossovers and mid sized SUVs will be on a UEV platform.

I’m hoping they offer a longer warranty tjan normal on this truck. It all sounds very smart and cool. But it also sounds like there’s a whole lot of ā€œfirstsā€ with this vehicle Ford has never done before. With the right warranty, I’d be willing to take a chance on it.

Now this is the stuff! Thank you, @ScottyC , for posting.

I could give two volts about whether this thing is a pickup truck or a sedan (at this point). I’m here for the platform.

Later, sure, I’ll want to know how the seats feel, and I won’t be buying a pickup truck. But for now, whisper to me about the 48v system and the Ethernet.

What is the Ford warranty on hybrid and electric vehicles?
Ford Motor Company offers warranty coverage for components unique to hybrid and electric vehicles, including the high voltage battery, found to be defective in factory-supplied materials or workmanship. This coverage lasts for 8 years or 100,000 miles from the Warranty Start Date, whichever occurs first.
Ford Dealers are in the best position to diagnose your concern and see if the repair is covered by a warranty.
Refer to your Warranty Guide on the Ford website for additional information.
Important: The High Voltage Battery is not covered if it is damaged due to improper vehicle storage. See your Owner's Manual for required storage procedures necessary to protect the high voltage battery.

I knew about most of this, but not the elimination of the low voltage battery. I don't think I've seen an EV do that before. Maybe the Cybertruck, which is also 48V?
Cybertruck has a 48V lithium ion battery.

How would it even work to eliminate the low voltage battery entirely? In a typical hybrid or EV, the low voltage battery amongst other things powers the high-voltage contactors which electrically isolate the HVB from the vehicle when disconnected.

So your low voltage battery allows you to unlock the vehicle and when you start it, instead of starting an ICE, it closes the contactors - almost like an industrial grade light switch - and the electric powertrain comes to life.

Maybe the paradigm shift is to stop thinking about it as one low voltage battery to run all the ā€œcar stuffā€ vs one high voltage battery to power traction.

Instead maybe it’s a ā€œdark startā€ low voltage battery (to do things like you describe) and then a giant battery to run everything after start.

For example, the radio and AC can run off the traction battery but contactors, proximity sensors, UWB radios… I dunno, the stuff that has to ā€œawakenā€ the traction battery… could run on th equivalent of a lightweight Anker battery from Amazon?

I was thinking more along the lines of a bumper to bumper warranty. Wondering how this new wiring harness system will hold up, the completely new 3 section design and assembly etc. etc. lots of firsts on this vehicle. I’m not really concerned too much about the HVB. That technology has been around.
