I wonder what the charging standard will be on Fathom? Will they go NACS since it appears that is going to eventually become the nationwide standard? Or will they stay J1772 so that existing Ford EV customers can keep their already installed level 2 home charge stations?

I can see either, but I'm hoping for the latter. I rarely stop at Tesla chargers, could use the included adapter if I have to, but would be able to immediately start charging at home if they go J1772 like the F-150 Lightning.

BTW: J1772 is L1/L2 AC charging.

CCS1 is DC fast charging; while NACS does both.

You will have to get a $40 J1772 to NACS AC adapter for your home charger if it's equipped with J1772.
You can't use your Ford adapter because it's for DC fast charging only.

Lectron, Tesla and A2Z sell these adapters - see pic below.

I love Tesla Superchargers - there are many close by and lots of new V4 towers going up.

Lots of options for a NACS plug equipped Level 2 charger. Emporia is my personal favorite. It can be equipped with either J1772 or NACS.

This is also the case with lots of Level 2 chargers for home use. Just swap the cable for one with plug you need. Lots of manufacturers offer the cable separately. OpenEVSE is an open source charger that sells all the parts as replacement. They even offer a DIY kit to build a Level 2 charger. I just purchased one recently. Good piece of kit.

No, I am not.

NACS home and Tesla Destination chargers are AC / L2 / L1.

Tesla owners use NACS chargers at home or on the road - does not matter if it's AC or DC - they can take both.

My Ford EV has CCS1 which has a subset of J1772 (not using the large 2 pins).

My charger at home is J1772 which is compatible with both my Ford Mach E BEV and Honda Clarity PHEV.

When I replace the Mach E with the Fathom, I will need to either:
Get an adapter for AC charging (J1772-NACS)
-OR-
Change out the charger with NACS but then the Honda will need an adapter.

Wish there was a home charger that has BOTH NACS and J1772.....

It’s simpler than it may seem…

The NACS standard uses the same pins for AC and DC charging, they are switched internally in the vehicle. The SAE (J1772/CCS1) standard has separate pins for AC (J1772 part) and DC (CCS part).

Because passive adapters are not capable of switching internally there has to be two types of physical adapters:

One type connects the NACS pins to J1772 AC pins. This is what you use for J1772 L1/L2 charging on a NACS equipped vehicle.

The other type connects the NACS pins to the CCS1 pins. This is what you use for CCS1 L3 DC charging on a NACS equipped vehicle.

Get both adapters and you’re covered for any charging scenario.

I’m sure it will be NACS. I find it annoying because I already have a CCS to NACs adapter that was $200 and a J1772 to NACS adapter (because for some reason our ‘23 EV6 came with a 120V NACS charger). My home charger, the free one at my office and the free ones at our city parking garages are all J1772.

Reasonable Inferences

I believe these items are now known known:

Low voltage architecture is 48v, although there are some local 12v step downs (eg DC power port)

Charge port location on the prototypes is drivers side rear (unlikely to change at this stage)

Destination charge is $1,595 (based on stated sell price of $29,950)

I will add that from the flipbook, it confirms AC outlet in the bed, at least as an option. Enough for a hair dryer, so at least 15 amp.

Also, since surfboards are lying down in the bed with tailgate up, then a midgate is essentially required if it is a large crew cab in a maverick footprint.

Those are the only two tidbits significantly about the truck in the video. I guess the frunk looks more curved than the f150, but it's pretty vague.

You are correct. We always aim to report prices with the destination fee. If the price we are reporting does not include the destination fee, we will make a note of that in the story. In the case of the Fathom, Ford lists the MSRP at $28,350, with a $1595 destination fee.

That was the most probable configuration but it’s not real until it’s actually been confirmed by Ford. There are third party reports that are based on the information gleaned during our April Ford Skunk Works tour, but nothing specifically from Ford on point. If you were to bet though, I’d not bet on a 12 volt system. Why? Because 48 volts means smaller wire is possible. Smaller wire means lower weight even beyond that achieved by Zonal Architecture. So don’t bet on a 12 volt system. ;)

Yes they are in the public pictures. It’s also where it was when we saw the prototype zone controller in April. The Lightning owners in the group and those who have watched people try to back into Supercharger spots suggested right front. In fact, everyone who has ever pulled any size trailer said right front.

But again, final production location has not been confirmed. I would not hold my breath waiting for right front though.

No we actually don’t, not exactly anyway. It’s more up in the air than that. FWD, like the base Maverick is a possibility. RWD is an obvious choice for towing and AWD for performance. But RWD as a baseline would not surprise me either.

Most of our opinions are based on what we’d personally like to see. For me that’s awd, a large bed and light duty towing capability. The prototype we saw in April had a short bed, more R1T size than Ranger or standard F-150.

The real question, imo, is what is the truck’s intended use? If it’s intended as a lifestyle truck with utility, don't be surprised with a FWD configuration on the base trim line. That’s not to say the truck can’t also be a RWD or AWD drive “work” truck in higher trims. Or have RWD as the base drive train either.

If you’re interested I can link an article I wrote for the Hawaii EV Association about our Ford Skunk Works (EVDC) tour back in April. I also have another one analyzing Thursday’s announcement, what Ford said, didn’t say, and what’s reasonably implied, that isn’t up just yet. That second article is very skewed towards a Hawaii point of view though. Things are a tad different here.

I honestly don’t disagree with any of the points you guys have made. I just don’t want to mislead someone who looks at a list and offers it as proof of life.

So much can be inferred or is unknown, If’s going to be fun watching all this unfold.

Actually we have known for almost a year now. It might not have been mentioned in this latest press release, but Jim Farley said it was RWD back in Sept 2025, and then Doug Field clarified in January 2026 that it would be RWD and AWD.
