Same with my dealer (doesn't do markups). My dealer of choice doesn't do markups. They make way more money in the garage to bother with those shenanigans.
EV's change this equation though, as routine maintenance is greatly reduced without an ICE. We recently bought a Chevy Bolt, and lack of after sales revenue is often given as a reason some dealers don't seem to care if they sell any EV's.My dealer of choice doesn't do markups. They make way more money in the garage to bother with those shenanigans.
That is a good thing.
So when pre-ordering begins in early 2027 you will have dealers to choose from and you will know what price they will be selling the Fathom at. No more guessing.
The two trucks are really not for the same demographic market. The whole Slate vs Fathom thing is dissapointing.
Why is EVERYTHING gotta be good-team/bad-team.
I choose team-EV truck to prosper. Especially if it's hometeam engineering and jobs.
Having said that, it's probably true that some greedy venture capitalist owned dealerships will try to squeeze the Fathom for everything they can get out of it. But many won't. Recent history taught some lessons regarding
The way Ford is setting it up the dealerships have to tell Ford what they will sell the Fathom for.It will be interesting to see if the markups over MRSP happen. I am betting that they will. I hope I'm wrong!! I'm afraid that in my area, Hampton Roads Virginia, it will be the rule rather than the exception. I am afraid that I will have to travel to a dealer outside of my area to get one at a reasonable cost. If Ford wants to sell 100,000 it seems to me that requiring a reasonable set price would prevent the markup and help sell the Fathom.
There are 8 primary Ford dealerships directly located across the Hampton Roads / Tidewater region of Virginia (covering Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, Hampton, Suffolk, and Williamsburg), plus a few more in surrounding communities.

But that doesn't change the point I'm making. The two trucks are really not for the same demographic market.
