The way Ford is setting it up the dealerships have to tell Ford what they will sell the Fathom for.

Unless the dealerships in your area collude ahead of time (which is a lawsuit waiting to happen) one or more will price to MSRP.

If they mark it up you will know ahead of ordering and give your business to one that doesn't.

Since there are 8 Ford Dealerships in your general area you should get at least a few at MSRP.
Agreed, shop the hell out of it. We shouldn't pay more than MSRP.

Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about. When my Maverick came in my dealer tried to up charge me like $12,000. Thankfully I had their original offer in writing or I would have had to walk. Shady stuff and they lost me as a customer for life over it and a couple of other crappy things they did.
The best you can do is learn. I avoid another dealership for a similar reason. Ford is saying, "This is our MSRP. Dealers will have various fees, etc., that may result in their number being different." My current dealer of choice literally charges only tax and tag, and nothing else. They recently expanded their garage so they can maintain fleet trucks, RVs, and semis. I've even joked they only sell Fords to keep that blue oval out front.

Plus, I only put 6,000 a year on my Maverick. They aren't exactly making bank on vehicle maintenance from me as it is.

For sure. I live in a pretty big city, so there’s no shortage of other Ford dealers around. I’ll just have to shop around when they open the preorders.

I’m putting around 12k a year on my hybrid, but most of it is city driving so I really only put 7 or 8k miles on the actual engine a year. I go in and get the recalls done and oil changed every January, so I’m in a similar boat maintenance-wise.

This might be self-limiting. THE REASON people are excited about Fathom is the price. Price is king here. It's the entire point of Ford building the vehicle actually; to have a cheap EV option in the marketplace.

So, if a dealer tries adding large ADMs to the MSRP they will severely limit their own ability to sell Fathoms. Buyers will either go elsewhere, or pick a different vehicle altogether at that point.

Could also be Ford letting dealers know they fully intend to throw them under the bus for any bad press related to dealership markups.

There are going to be some dealers that are going to be high profile because of their no nonsense approach. If course it will require the initial release dust to settle before everything becomes clear and transparent.

There's already a few well known dealers that sell a lot of vehicles to fly&buy customers from all over the country, because of their reputation for no shenanigans.

Is down the road from me, near Des Moines, Iowa. They are probably the most well-known fly and drive dealer for Ford in the last few years. I've had a good experience there. I leased my Lightning from there and it was very pain-free. I'm happy with my experience with them.

Won't there be an option to order from Ford for MSRP plus delivery fees? That is what I was going to do when I bought my Maverick to get around dealer markups. I ended up getting one for ~$2400 under MSRP that the dealer had ordered but had not yet been delivered. I think someone cancelled when the 2025's announced AWD and 4K towing.

Technically, you have to order via a dealership. By law, Ford cannot offer direct orders in most states. Tesla Simply doesn't do business in those states. It's why, if you live in Alabama and want to order directly from Tesla, you have to take delivery in Atlanta or Pensacola.

I have identified 15 dealers within 50 miles of my address. One so far by website lists no dealer fees and several national dicounts such as new ford buyer and first responder. I suspect that local meet or beat dealers may want to compete. If not, I will drive an hour to pick up a vehicle to save $1000 dollars.

When I am notified for preorder and dealer identification, i will call sales managers and see if they are interested in taking an order.

The process has changed since 24. You could configure and order a Mav and have it delivered to the dealer of your choice for MSRP plus destination - no dickering and guaranteed price. Now if you chose the build your own option, you get a "Net MSRP", an invitation to ask your dealer for a quote, with the following disclaimer"

Estimated Net Price is the Total Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price ("Total MSRP") minus any available offers and/or incentives. Incentives may vary. Excludes Dealer Adjustment, dealer add-ons, or dealer fees such as documentary fees, as well as taxes, title, and registration fees. For authenticated AXZ Plan customers, the price displayed may represent Plan pricing. Not all AXZ Plan customers will qualify for the Plan pricing shown and not all offers or incentives are available to AXZ Plan customers.
