They also said earlier in the video that the fathom is bigger than a maverick. He said when he asked that they didn’t hesitate, but said firmly that it is bigger. This is good to me as I’d like something between a Ranger and maverick size.

I think fathom is smaller than maverick. But has more interior space. We've seen the real world mules, it looks about the same length as mav, but lower, more like a ute.

So smaller, but more space.

I think when he says it's bigger, he's saying the interior space is bigger than a mav, not that the overall truck is bigger. Because we know the fathom is gonna have a shorter hood with a larger cab than mav.

No engine bay means you can push the cab up a little and make use of that space. Opens more room in the rear without completely changing the overall footprint of the Maverick.

Long MAcArthur video 251 yesterday has a few minutes discussing the Fathom after their introduction. Tim confirms sheet of plywood capability mid gate when discussing the capabilities of the Maverick as well as towing capacity and range for driving as well as both standard range and extended range expected to be introduced at the same time. He qualifies his comments to allow some interpretation to be safe. Also the charger install bonus offered with install allowance is expected to be extended to the Fathom. None of this is confirmed, just his interpretation of what was shared. All good news however.

In that video posted above she makes an excellent point, that I've been saying for years. The reason Maverick sold so well is because of PRICE. It was a pickup truck that you could fully deck out for under $40k in a world of $60k to $110k trucks. THAT is what sold it. Nobody thought Maverick was particularly good looking, and it certainly isn't as spatious as they'd like, and it can't really handle most truck tasks. But it's dirt cheap and THAT made it sell like hotcakes.

The reason Fathom is going to sell faster than they can make them is because of PRICE. This might be the vehicle that really takes EVs mainstream in this country. The price alone will make a lot of people at least try it, and many will fall in love.

I don't know about dirt cheap.
I still haven't seen dirt cheap except some of the lease deals on things like the previous generation Leaf.

But I will agree that the Maverick is perhaps "affordable", when stacked up against what else is available to Americans in our home market.

That, along with the fact that the Maverick has turned out to be a pretty decent product, as well.

By the way, I think it's a handsome little truck. But that's subjective, I admit.

At $29,945 for the Fathom including destination charge let's compare it to the 2027 Maverick (Hybrid) base (no options) prices including destination charge:

2027 Maverick XL Hybrid Base: $29,990

So the Fathom costs less than the 2027 Ford Maverick XL Hybrid base with no options.

2027 Maverick XLT Hybrid Base: $32,590

My 2023 Maverick XLT Hybrid with these options Atlas Blue, CoPilot 360, Spare 17" Tire, Wired Entry KeyPad, 400 watt inverter in Cab had a MSRP including destination charge of $26,850 three years ago.

Today a 2027 Maverick XLT Hybrid with these options, Velocity Blue, CoPilot 360, Spare 17" Tire, Wired Entry KeyPad has a MSRP including destination charge of $34,480 and it can't have the 400 watt inverter in Cab unless you purchase the Luxury Package.

To replace my current Maverick XLT Hybrid with a 2027 one with the same options would cost $34,480 or $4,535 more than the Fathom.

2027 Maverick Lariat Hybrid Base: $36,605

From Tim's comment "You will be very impressed at the price level with what's included as standard equipment" I believe that it will have as standard what I have in my XLT Maverick and may even match or exceed what a Lariat comes with standard.

Since we are hearing that the only options at ordering will be an ER Battery (Tim: you will be very surprised in how cheap it will be) and AWD and pick your color

Ford really wants the Fathom to succeed and having it at under $30,000 along with the features included will greatly propel it to do so.

It's basically bet the farm.

My only complaint with Ford is their insane sandbagging on the electrification of their legacy behemoth models. They could and should be disrupting the American full sized pickup truck industry. The Powerboost is in its 6th year of production and Ford hasn't released a V2 of the Powerboost ONLY because they don't have to. Sandbagging, by the very definition.

There should already be SuperDuty Powerboost, as well as EREV options for the F-series trucks.

I believe ALL of these things already exists well beyond just discussion and conference room considerations. For whatever reasons, sandbagging is strategic.

Yeah I think it's strategic in that it's financially driven. EREV tech and a Powerboost setup for HD trucks are both very expensive ideas to implement. What incentive does Ford have to spend that cash when they've already had the best selling trucks in America for 48 consecutive years?

Ram is back-pedaling to V8 engines to try and save a sinking ship so they aren't pushing Ford. GM is, well, GM...making the least reliable junk on U.S. highways and trying to extinguish fires with transmission and engine failures while watching profits tumble, so they aren't a threat to Ford either. I suppose Ford will just keep sitting where they are as long as the money keeps flowing on 7.3L gas and 6.7L diesel Super Duty trucks.
