Yes, real world data is definitely needed.

Remember, EV battery capacity never reaches 100% full charge or 0% discharge.
Due to SOC buffers built in to protect the cells, the vehicle will never get to use 100% of the battery.

Theoretically, my 72kWh battery in my Mach E, with 230 mile range it should get 3.2 mi/kWh but not even close due to the SOC buffers on both ends.

In real life, it's a lot less.
FWIW the 63 kWh is what SLATE is saying is the usable capacity... the actually battery spec is 65 kWh total; if you believe google.

Yeah, it always varies. I haven’t found Slate to play fast and loose with their numbers so far. Remember when they advertised 150 miles for the old “standard range” option? No one would do that in the US market unless they were serious…

  • Deep Apple Maps integration baked directly into the vehicle — not phone mirroring, actually embedded in the stack — and it's also what powers the next-gen BlueCruise on-ramp to off-ramp handling, that will also be available with Fathom.
Oh hey. So if Apple Maps is the primary vehicle map system, can it now handle trailer-optimized routing?

I think the F-150 can have trailer towing navigation:

Fathom's $30K base sounds like it won't have the extra camera for hitching and the trailer computation mode.

Lightning has trailer mode w/ class IV towing up to 10,000 lbs; something the Fathom won't have.

It may be estimated by Apple Maps.....

It might not be official, but it’s definitely been confirmed, which was the original wording. I’ll choose to believe the CEO and the guy who oversaw the development of the Fathom and ran the entire Skunkworks 😂.

Now, nothing about the midgate has been confirmed, but there have been mentions of it from various “insiders” as well as patent drawings. Insiders can be wrong and patents don’t always make it to production, but I think where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Here’s one of the patent drawings showing a truck with a very similar shape to the Fathom, and notice those surfboards showing up again 😂.

I personally agree that the midgate is not needed and only increases the price without providing much value. You might have a few people who use it a lot, but the vast majority of people aren’t. If I’m carrying a surfboard, it’s much faster to throw it in the bed and rest it on the tailgate than having to open up the midgate.

Since I mentioned patent drawings, might as well throw this one out there too. This may or may not be the Fathom interior. It does line up nicely to some of the spy shots and images ford has released.

You may be right. I believe Chevrolet does this on their Silverado EV, but I’m thinking the midgate gate will be standard. Ford has been trying to simplify the assembly process with the fathom. Having an optional midgate seems like it would go against that.

The patent photos look like they would be good input for AI rendering of the vehicle.

Probably not very close, since that rendering doesn't look like a Ford product whatsoever. They will at least keep some of the Ford design language in the Fathom. That rendering looks like Nissan or Honda.

People who saw it said it looked more like something you'd see from Kia or Hyundai. Which isn't a bad thing considering those brands have been knocking it out of the park with a lot of their latest designs.

It'll be interesting to see how close this rendering will be to the real truck.
Pretty close, I've been told the blue rendering is the most accurate so far. The silver rendering shows the shorter hood well, but it angles down which that rendering doesn't.

As a long time fan of the KingRanch theme, I wish the interior on the rendering was remotely possible.

I fear it unlikely though.
KingRanch is probably too Legacy a brand for the UEV platform. At least for now.
