And of course the Maverick, which is of special interest because Ford has specifically said the Fathom has a longer wheelbase than the Maverick. So it puts a lower bound on wheelbase. But I'm wagering the Fathom has less length either side of the wheels - especially up front.

The Ford Maverick features a wheelbase of 121.1 inches. I pay special attention to wheelbase because it is a big indicator of turning radius. Suspension design affects it also, but wheelbase is the biggie. I greatly miss the foot-shorter turning radius of my old Ranger two door.

Good point. Thanks for updating. My brain was stuck on the mid size Class provided by Ford and validated by Tim from Long McArthur. After some Ai research, there is no formal designation for compact or mid size, so I decided to look at the datafor the vehicles that are referenced that way. Metally I had eliminated Maverick. Not a good call.

I care about the bed size since a lot of materials I move are 4' wide. The Maverick bed's tailgate entry is about 50" wide IIRC---the internet will tell you the bed max width is 53", but that's beyond the tailgate. The bed height is about 20"; about 18" if you have a tonneau cover.

For the Mav, I have to put in some 2x4 supports, then full size material goes above the wheel well. They have a feature where you can set the tailgate as an extra support at that level. But I've done it and it's not an optimal solution.

I'm hoping Fathom does the Telo thing. Wheel wells far enough apart to load flat on the bed floor. And a midgate allowing you to close the tailgate and carry a 4x8 load flat. I don't expect it though - I get the vibe that Ford isn't chasing that kind of buyer. But one can always hope.

Yea, I had buyer's remorse pulling out of the dealership lot in my 200" long Maverick, looking back sadly at my 189" Ranger. The Maverick still feels like a bloated whale when parking. Not as bad as the Ridgeline I test drove, but a monster. I can't imagine parking a modern F150.

Hoping the Fathom is a bit smaller than my Mav. The Slate (my #2 choice) is plenty small but it's also clearly a punishment box on wheels.

Good points but be aware on an EV, wheelbase doesn't always have the same relationship due to the additional room in the chassis due to the small size of the electric motors.

It really varies too based on the steering and suspension design and set up. Having had or driven all these, a Ioniq 5 has the turning circle of a truck but the longer Honda Prologue with a similar wheelbase turns like a Civic. So does an ID.4 which virtually pivots on its rear wheels.

Not an absolute based on wheelbase alone.
